Work at Lionel-Groulx
station
The STM wishes to inform its
clientele that the work required to make Lionel-Groulx station
accessible to persons with reduced mobility will start on March 4, 2008
and will end in March 2009.
This work consists of
installing three elevators that will provide access to the ticket booth
level, then to the upper platform (directions Montmorency and
Honoré-Beaugrand) and finally to the lower platform (directions Côte-Vertu
and Angrignon). The installation of the three elevators will require the
enlargement of the north-side entrance (Saint-Jacques Street), which will
be entirely integrated into the present building architecture. In
addition, 76 parking spaces for bicycles will be installed.
The station will remain open
during its normal hours. However, the escalators could be stopped
occasionally. Notices will be posted on site.
The drilling of the concrete
will be done as of the month of March. For reasons of security and
comfort, the work sites on the two levels will be enclosed by plywood
walls so as to reduce the inconvenience caused by the noise. These work
sites will be located in the central part of each level, towards the
middle of the platforms.
The installation of the
elevator on the ticket booth level will necessitate the moving of the work
of art entitled L’arbre de vie by a few metres.
On the upper level, the
middle escalator leading to the lower platform will be blocked off, and
transit users will have to make their way to either end of the platform to
take the other escalators or the stairway.
The work to enlarge the
entrance will begin in April.
It should be noted that,
with the three stations in Laval being the only ones equipped with
elevators,
Lionel-Groulx station will
become the first accessible station on Montréal territory. Subsequently,
between now and 2010, Berri-UQAM, Bonaventure, Henri-Bourassa and Côte-Vertu stations will also
be equipped with elevators.
